Haverfordwest is a bustling market town, ideally situated at the centre of Pembrokeshire’s
road network. This is a great location for holidaymakers because it means that all
of the county’s main attractions are no more than a short drive away.
Its most attractive pedestrianised shopping centre, straddles the pretty Cleddau river, containing a range of local and national shops. Much of the precinct is under cover so is ideal for occupying a wet afternoon.
The retail park contains a number of large
national shops, such as Morrisons, Marks
& Spencers, Boots, Currys, Comet, Next, Laura Ashley, Sports Direct, Wickes, Homebase,
Pets At Home and Halfords. There is a Tesco Extra supermarket (24 hour) on the other
side of town which is just a mile away from Haroldston. Aldi and Lidl are also represented
in the town. A popular farmers’ market is held on Riverside, on alternate Fridays.
The town centre has several pubs, cafes and a thriving night club which cater for all tastes.
The centre piece of Haverfordwest is the castle which was first established in the
early 12th century. This is surrounded by quaint mediaeval streets, although most
of the building facades date from a later era. The town, itself, celebrated its 900th
anniversary in 2010.
For the fitness enthusiast, the town has a brand new, well equipped leisure centre,
which is just 1 mile away from Haroldston. The centr
e has a large swimming pool,
with a moveable floor, which enables the depth to be adjusted to suit differing events.
There are also 2 associated children's 'beach' pools. The well equipped gym has a
full range of state of the art equipment ideal for a vigorous workout or game of
squash. The dance studios have a regular programme of classes, such as spin, body
pump, step and pilates.
For those who are enjoying a walking holiday, access to beautiful and extensive riverside walks is only half a mile from Haroldston. The Western Cleddau section of the National Coastal Park is within walking distance at Little Milford. There is also a dedicated off road cycle path that starts near to Haroldston and covers the 11 miles to Neyland Marina.
