Haverfordwest: Pembrokeshire's County Town

River Cleddau, HaverfordwestHaverfordwest is a bustling market town, ideally situated at the centre of Pembrokeshire’s road network. This is a great location for holidaymakers because it means that all of the county’s main attractions are no more than a short drive away.

Its most attractive pedestrianised shopping centre, straddles the pretty Cleddau river, containing a range of local and national shops. Much of the precinct is under cover so is ideal for occupying a wet afternoon.

The retail park contains a number of large Riverside Shopping Centre, Haverfordwest national shops, such as Morrisons, Marks & Spencers, Boots, Currys, Comet, Next, Laura Ashley, Sports Direct, Wickes, Homebase, Pets At Home and Halfords. There is a Tesco Extra supermarket (24 hour) on the other side of town which is just a mile away from Haroldston. Aldi and Lidl are also represented in the town. A popular farmers’ market is held on Riverside, on alternate Fridays.

The town centre has several pubs, cafes and a thriving night club which cater for all tastes.

Haverfordwest CastleThe centre piece of Haverfordwest is the castle which was first established in the early 12th century. This is surrounded by quaint mediaeval streets, although most of the building facades date from a later era. The town, itself, celebrated its 900th anniversary in 2010.

For the fitness enthusiast, the town has a brand new, well equipped leisure centre, which is just 1 mile away from Haroldston. The centrHaverfordwest Leisure Centree has a large swimming pool, with a moveable floor, which enables the depth to be adjusted to suit differing events. There are also 2 associated children's 'beach' pools. The well equipped gym has a full range of state of the art equipment ideal for a vigorous workout or game of squash. The dance studios have a regular programme of classes, such as spin, body pump, step and pilates.

For those who are enjoying a walking holiday, access to beautiful and extensive riverside walks is only half a mile from Haroldston. The Western Cleddau section of the National Coastal Park is within walking distance at Little Milford. There is also a dedicated off road cycle path that starts near to Haroldston and covers the 11 miles to Neyland Marina.
